Our Neighbourhood and Beyond!

Well here are bunch of pictures that will give you a glimpse of our lives for the past few weeks.  These first pictures are taken from the Athletics/Track and Field Day at SPH about 3 weeks ago.  It was a joyfilled community building event.  It was organized very well and brought together all sorts of people at SPH -- what a pleasure to be a part of this event!

Oops...Eyes Closed...even in a race!

Derick -- 800 metre finish -- a great tactically put together race!

Nisha's 1st place leap in Long Jump!

Silas was so happy that Derick won!  Love this pic!

Derick was talking about this experience forever before we came...
well he is living it to the fullest.  One of his collection of catches!
Nisha and Maya cooking for a class presentation
which they made a 'movie' about

A common meal (Soto Ayam) for us at home made by
our incredible helper -- Ibu Sar
Air Conditioner -- instead of Central AC, there is usually a unit like this in every room.
Stone Construction makes it more difficult to run duct work...plus its so hot it
would most likely be warm before it even gets to the room!  ;)
This will look familiar to many of you who have lived overseas before..
.we had this same tool in Nigeria.  Broom --  Used for sweeping anything
anywhere anytime!  They work incredible well!
Memorabilia that is special to us.  Speaks to people about who we are when they visit us.   P.S.  Derick made the picture on the left -- how fitting!

Electrical Panel...Yikes!  There are like 3 of these in and around our house.
We typically have to reset the electricity/breakers about
3 or 4 times a day...yeah...not so safe.
And about 3/4 of the loads are on one circuit!

Our Isuzu Panther -- we've had 12 people in this van.
All North American safety rules and regulations have disappeared!
Below are some more pictures of random things in our 'Taman' (neighbourhood)

Night Security Station

Some flowers from the trees lying on the road

Pineapple

Beside the house...under a covered porch.

These flowers can be boiled for a 'tea' like drink

Jakarta
The next 3 pictures were taken at an orphanage that we volunteer at.  Incredible opportunity for our kids, and us, to experience the true reality for too many kids here.

Silas and his buddy Jayden who is a couple of years younger but lives in our neighbourhood and plays like Silas plays -- they have lots of fun together and can usually be seen in the morning acting silly when they see each other for the first time of the day.

On our way to Taman Safari (http://www.tamansafari.com/) -- Seriously the best safari adventure and zoo we have ever been to as a family.  This might have something to do with the limited restrictions in the park and how close we could get to the animals.  You will be able to see a little evidence of this from some of the following pics.  The scenery was incredible on the drive up and back as well, plus in between...with an added few hours finding the hotel off the main drag!  Enjoy a glimpse into what we did last weekend!
notice anything peculiar about this picture?
You want to talk about getting close to animals...well the next pictures will give you a flavour of experiencing closeness....

We spent quite a bit of time with the Chimps.  Here the zookeeper let
us feed them fruit.  So hey would go through a process of asking for
it and us throwing it to them!

At the corner of the main road, Puncak Pass, and Taman Safari Road.
Quite impressive...all carved out of wood!

Tea Fields...on our drive!

One of the plethora of road side markets.
